- Dr Susan McGuire received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology-Chemistry from the University of Southwestern Louisiana.

 - Dr. McGuire attended dental school at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1986.

 - She practiced general dentistry in New Orleans for 6 years prior to returning to LSU to complete a residency in Pediatric Dentistry. She received her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 1994.

 - Professionally, Dr. McGuire belongs to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Louisiana Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is a member of the American Dental Association and the Louisiana Dental Association. She served as Secretary of the Acadiana District Dental Association, for 3 years. She is an Adjunct Professor at LSU Dental School and volunteers her time at the dental clinic of the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic.

 - Dr. McGuire was appointed by Governor Foster to serve as the Acadiana Representative for the Louisiana Fluoridation Advisory Board.

 - Civically, Dr. McGuire is a member of the Junior League of Lafayette. She has served on their board of Directors for four years. She is a member of the 100 Club, a police service organization. She attends Asbury Methodist Church. 

 - Dr. McGuire and her husband Robin, have resided in Lafayette since 1991. They have one son, Gordon.
